The Four Pillars of WSC
World Scholar's Cup is a team academic competition for students aged roughly 10 to 18. Teams of three compete in four events drawn from a curriculum that changes every year, starting at a Regional Round and qualifying for a Global Round and the Tournament of Champions at Yale. Questions parents ask
What does World Scholar's Cup coaching cover?
All four events. The Scholar's Challenge is 120 multiple-choice questions across six subjects, so we teach the curriculum and the multiple-marking tactics that shape the score. Team Debate is three rounds with written feedback after each, so students debate every week. Collaborative Writing and the Scholar's Bowl are drilled against the official rubric with timed practice.
How do the classes work?
Live online, 8 to 12 students, in 10 to 12 week terms. Sessions are scheduled on Dubai time (UTC+4) with cohorts that suit the Gulf, South Asia, and East and Southeast Asia. Coaches have competed at Global Rounds and the Tournament of Champions. The first class is a free trial.
How much does WSC coaching cost?
The Debate Bootcamp is $220 a month. The Global Round Bootcamp is $440 a month for the twice-weekly track, or $240 for once a week, with discounts for three- and four-month commitments. Private coaching is $100 an hour, $90 on a 10-hour pack and $80 on a 20-hour pack.
How do teams qualify for the Global Round?
By competing at a Regional Round. WSC sets the threshold per round rather than publishing a fixed cutoff, and in recent seasons roughly 50 to 70% of teams have advanced. 85% of our students qualified across the 2024 to 2026 seasons. The Global Round is where the field gets hard, so we prepare for that bar from the first week.
When should a team start preparing?
As soon as the season's curriculum is released in January. Our term programs run 10 to 12 weeks, so a team that starts then has a full term before its Regional Round. A student who already knows the format can join a Specialist Track for a single event instead.
What happens after the Global Round?
Teams that qualify go to the Tournament of Champions at Yale University, 12 to 18 November 2026. All three scholars must have qualified at a 2026 Global Round, at least two as teammates, and every attendee must be at least 11. Our ToC Prep Program runs from September for qualified teams.
