WSC Summer Skills Workshop

An eight-week summer program for scholars who want to try World Scholar's Cup prep — or sharpen specific skills — without a long-term commitment. The format is learning-plus-drill: each week pairs a two-hour teaching session with a two-hour practice session, so students learn a skill and then put it into action the same week.

The curriculum covers core skills across all four WSC events (Team Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholar's Challenge, Scholar's Bowl) using the 2026 "Are We There Yet?" syllabus. We work through case construction, theme integration, POI strategy, writing under timed pressure, Challenge pattern recognition, and Bowl team dynamics — the skills that make the difference between a confident Regional team and a Global-medal contender in the fall.

Two batches run across the summer (starting June 1 and July 1) so families can fit it around travel. Cohorts are capped at 8 students; first class is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Summer Workshop for?
Scholars (10–17) who want a structured intro to WSC prep without a year-long commitment, or returning scholars who want to drill specific skills before the fall season.
Can we do both batches?
Each batch runs the same curriculum, so the value of doing both is limited unless you want a longer skill-building stretch. Most families pick one batch and continue with a group bootcamp or 1:1 if they want more.
What if we're traveling during part of a batch?
Recordings are available for missed sessions. The drill sessions are harder to replicate remotely, but coaches will assign solo practice for weeks you miss.
Does this prep for the Global Round directly?
Indirectly. The Summer Workshop builds the foundational skills that the Global Round Bootcamp and 1:1 coaching then deepen. Scholars who finish the workshop and want to compete at a fall Global Round usually continue into a group bootcamp or 1:1.
What's a 'learning + drill' week?
One session each week teaches a skill (e.g., POI delivery); the second session runs a drill that puts the skill into action (e.g., a timed debate where every speech has to take or deliver a POI). It's hands-on, not lecture-based.
