Tournament of Champions Prep: 10-Week Program for Yale ToC 2026
Your scholar earned their invitation to the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions. Now comes the hard part: competing against every other team that did too. Train twice a week from September 5–6 to November 7–8 — a weekend masterclass with Coach Shaurya plus a judged practice round every week — and arrive in New Haven ready to peak.
What Is the Tournament of Champions at Yale?
The Tournament of Champions is the final round of the World Scholar’s Cup season — the invitational where scholars who qualified at a Global Round gather at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The 2026 edition runs November 12–18, 2026, hosted with the Yale International Relations Association, with events staged in the Shubert Theatre and Yale’s Woolsey Hall.
Scholars from more than fifty countries compete across the same four events as every WSC round — the Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing, Team Debate, and the Scholar’s Bowl — but against a field made up entirely of Global Round qualifiers. Seats are capacity-limited by division, and once WSC reaches capacity, registration closes.
ToC week is also an experience of Yale itself — which is a large part of why families make the trip:

How Do You Qualify for the Tournament of Champions?
WSC extends ToC invitations at every Global Round based on performance. The 2026 rules are specific about who can field a team at Yale:
All three scholars qualified
Every member of a ToC team must have qualified at a 2026 Global Round — or the 2025 Dubai Holiday Special Global Round.
Two qualified together
At least two teammates must have qualified as a team. The third seat may be filled by a substitute who qualified at a different Global Round.
Age 11 and older
ToC has no Skittles division: every scholar must be at least 11. Teams compete as Juniors (up to 13) or Seniors (14+).

Why ToC Is Harder Than the Global Round
At a Global Round, the field spans everyone from first-time regional qualifiers to seasoned medalists. At the Tournament of Champions, the bottom of that distribution is gone. Every scholar in the room performed well enough at a Global Round to earn an invitation — which changes all four events at once.
Scholar’s Challenge medal cutoffs climb because the median scholar simply knows more. Debate draws put you against teams that have already beaten strong opposition all season. Collaborative Writing is scored against a sharper pool. And the Scholar’s Bowl rewards the split-second confidence that only comes from repetition against real opponents.
That is the gap this program closes: not learning the curriculum for the first time, but re-learning it at the depth where ToC honors are decided — and getting ten full judged practice rounds of match fitness before stepping into the Shubert Theatre.
Inside the 10-Week Program (September – November 2026)
Two sessions a week, every week, from September 5–6 to November 7–8 — finishing the weekend before ToC week so your scholar flies to New Haven rested and sharp.
Weekend Masterclass — 2 hours
Coach Shaurya teaches the 2026 “Are We There Yet?” curriculum at ToC depth: subject mastery across all six subjects, motion analysis, writing standards, and Challenge strategy. Pick the cohort that fits your weekend — the curriculum is identical:
- Cohort A: Saturdays, 9:30–11:30 AM (Dubai time)
- Cohort B: Sundays, 11:00 AM–1:00 PM (Dubai time)
Judged Practice Round — 2 hours
Once a week, both cohorts combine for a full ToC-format round — usually a 3-on-3 debate, with Scholar’s Bowl, Challenge, and Writing simulations rotated in. Coaches judge and score every round, and every scholar gets written feedback on every speech.
